Aeries Glitch Reveals Class Rankings for Albany High Students

For the first two-and-a-half weeks of school, students got a big shock when logging into Aeries and discovering that class rankings had been posted online.  Apparently caused by a system configuration error, students could see this information, but counselors could not.

Generally, the rankings are not posted due to the large number of students with the same GPA and the difficulty of maintaining accurate logs.

“You always have a few people that are number one, and it changes every semester,” noted assistant principal Tami Benau.

The students had mixed feelings about this new feature.

Senior Wendy Li explained, “It’s fun to compete with senior James Ren.  But, I don’t appreciate it because it makes you seem better than everyone else when in reality GPA doesn’t define a person.”

Junior Liya Oster is of the same opinion. “It’s a bad idea because it promotes competition between friends,” she lamented.

Though this caused some concern in the AHS student community, the counseling office saw no major increase in the number of students they met with.

The administration removed the page on Sept. 13 after being informed of its existence.
