Albany Artist: Hannah Berman of Pie Bird Press

Her business card says she is a printer and piemaker. Did you know that a pie bird is a hollow ceramic figurine that people used to put in pies to let the steam escape?

Hannah Berman studied printmaking at Rhode Island School of Design and apprenticed with Peter Koch Printers in Berkeley. In 2005 she began making notecards from linocuts of her own designs, using the old-school letterpress process. In 2005 she started her own company, Pie Bird Press.
