A 25-year-old cyclist from Richmond was sent to the hospital Monday morning after running into a driver who was trying to park on Solano Avenue.

The determined that the cyclist appeared to be at fault for the accident because he tried to pass the vehicle on the right, said Lt. John Geissberger.

Police received a call at 9:35 a.m. about the crash, which occurred near 1181 Solano Ave.

Several Albany Patch readers sent in tips about the incident after seeing the cyclist on a stretcher, and his bicycle apparently pinned under the vehicle.

Before the crash, said Geissberger, the vehicle was traveling west on Solano with the cyclist following behind it.

The driver, a 57-year-old Albany woman, activated her right-hand signal and turned into a parking stall.

As she turned, police said the cyclist struck her vehicle on the right side.

Geissberger said that, according to the preliminary investigation, the cyclist appeared to be at fault in connection with a violation of section 21755 of the Vehicle Code. This section states that right-side passing may only take place "under conditions permitting that movement in safety. In no event shall that movement be made by driving off the paved or main-traveled portion of the roadway."

The cyclist was taken by ambulance to the hospital for a complaint of pain to his right arm.

Police did not issue a citation following the incident.
