LaRouche on Solano: Obama as Hitler?

A pair of LaRouche campaign volunteers reached out in Albany on Wednesday. You may have seen them in front of the post office.

Two LaRouche campaign volunteers made waves on Solano Avenue on Wednesday by displaying several posters of President Barack Obama adorned by a Hitler mustache.

The posters included exhortations to impeach the president, or simply "Dump Obama."

Volunteer Alexandra Perebikovsky, 24, said the due was trying to connect with voters to share the message that Obama's policies are representative of fascist government, and that it's a slippery slope between the current state of economic depression and genocide.

The team of two met with varying levels of success.

Earlier in the day, one gentleman, described by Perebikovsky as "a '60s baby boomer wearing really long socks," tried to run down the Obama signs, she said. He then arrived on foot and tried to tear them down.

Perebikovsky said she and her fellow volunteer had to call police, who then went to the man's home and told him to behave, she added.

She said "the mustache we have on Obama" was mostly what seemed to be riling people up.

"They don't like it," she said. "It's shocking. But it's truthful too."

In one 20-minute period, two men with a dog in a jeep cheered and pumped their fists in response to the impeachment message.

Other passers-by were less enthusiastic:

LaRouche volunteer: Would you like to take a flier?

Passer-by: Nope. Not from you.

Volunteer: Why not?

Passer-by: ...You're out of it.

Volunteer: What do you think (about our display)?

Passer-by, shaking her finger: I don't like that.

Passer-by: Hi! What's that about? (in reference to the Obama posters)

Volunteer: Sign up with us!

Passer-by: That imagery... you just lost me.

Volunteer: Obama?

Passer-by: You crazy.

One Albany commissioner, walking his children home from school, side-stepped the booth, but wished them "Good luck with that."

Perebikovsky said, for the most part, Albanians had been civil, even when expressing their disagreement.

She said there had been "mixed reception" to their efforts, but that even folks who said they didn't agree said they didn't feel positive about the president. Still, many added that they didn't see anyone more viable or preferable on the Republican ticket.

The biggest challenge of the day, Perebikovsky said, had been "getting through people's pessimism" about the future, and letting them know "we don't have to go into another war or two. We can have a fun future."
