[Editor's Note: This comment, composed by the Albany Strollers & Rollers Core Group, was written in response to a link we posted last week that led to an interview with Transition Albany leader Catherine Sutton.]
Albany Strollers & Rollers (AS&R) thanks Catherine for her mentions in the linked article. Recognizing that there are a number of organizations in Albany and it is sometimes hard to keep straight which organization has done what, AS&R offers the following corrections to some of her comments.
The Albany Bike Rodeos have long been put on by the Albany Police Activities League. AS&R has been privileged to assist with part of these free events for the past couple of years.
The Albany Recreation Department invited AS&R to partner on the well attended "Bike About Town" events last Fall.
AS&R was founded in 2004 and currently has a membership of approximately 400 households pursuing its mission of improving conditions in Albany for human-scale transportation. Walking and cycling are chief among these, but any way of getting around that allows one to safely and legally stop to talk to an acquaintance or give someone directions is included.
AS&R looks forward to working with TA and other Albany organizations as each takes its own path and contributes its own flavor of efforts towards an improved future for Albany.
