We know Albany has a ton of talented shooters, and we're always looking for ways to feature their work. In this vein, we created a Flickr group to make it easier for you to post photos that we can highlight. We'll select a new item to feature each week. Adding your photo to our group is simple; all you need is a free Flickr account. This is a great way for you to post breaking news photos and other stand-out shots you take around town—of moments that inspire you, or community events such as the Solano Stroll. Our group has hundreds of images from more than 40 members, and we'll be finding ways to grow these numbers in the coming months. Music instruction in the Albany public schools continues at high levels thanks to the Albany Music Fund. Support it by attending the "Spring Fling."
Trumpet trills, trombone swoops and sultry saxophones scales filled the air as the nervous students warmed up. Conductor Craig Bryant raised his baton. Stillness. Then, the most exquisite Duke Ellington “Things Ain’t What They Used to Be” swelled from those same instruments. The audience cheered wildly as the session of the Folsom Jazz Festival 2012 continued with more jazz greats from the Albany musicians, and then the judges voted Albany High School Jazz Lab first place in its division. The Oscars may be over, but Albany has its own event featuring notable films from near and far happening this Saturday at the Albany Community Center. For just $5, attendees will be treated to dozens of screenings on March 3, as well as question-and-answer sessions with filmmakers and, yes, free popcorn. See the full program in the PDF attached to this story. At the end of the night, a panel of judges will award cash prizes and other gifts to the winning filmmakers.
