Team 2 was pulling ahead—it was time for another bake sale.
Angela Newsom wasn’t quite sure what she was in for when she decided to give her group of about 30 interns at McAfee a community service project. She split them into teams, appointed captains, and set a Virtual Food Drive goal: $1,200 for the Food Bank.
They'd be in charge of their own fundraising projects, and the Virtual Food Drive would track progress toward their goal in real time.
The interns passed $1,200 in two days.
So she set the goal higher.
The interns picked memorable names for their groups, like Soup-A-Starz, Notorious C.A.N. and French Toast Mafia. Then they found ways to promote their teams. They donned aprons and sold home-made desserts. They papered the offices with flyers. They raffled gift baskets at lunchtime.
“It was so easy to set up, and it really brought a lot of excitement to the office,” Angela said. “I was proud of them.”
So are we. Together, the teams raised $5,015.12—400% of their goal.
