Albany Athletes run/cycle Tahoe Marathon!

Every September South Lake Tahoe hosts the Lake Tahoe Marathon Week (September 26th – 29th, 2013). This week includes over 30 different athletic events, ranging from ultra marathons, swimming the lake, stand up paddleboard, and cycling. Participants can mix and match and create thier own triathlons and challenges.

This year Albany residents will be taking on the Tahoe Trifecta and the 72 mile Cycling Around the Lake challenges. Andrea, one of the Albany RATS runners, will be running the full Trifecta for the first time. This Trifecta consists of three half marathons in three days, each route on different sections circling around the lake, for a total of 39.3 miles. Last year Andrea ran the Saturday section of the Trifecta, which covered both California and Nevada, routing on the east and north section of the lake near Incline Village.

Carl, another Albany RATS runner, will be hanging up his running shoes and clipping into a titanium road bike. This will be Carl’s second year participating in the Lake Tahoe Marathon Week as a cyclist. Last year he placed 75th out of 173, with a time of 03:46:00. His goal this year is to beat last year’s time. Carl is no stranger to Tahoe cycling – he has participated in the Death Ride multiple times, and trains in the Tahoe basin on a regular basis. (For those who are not familiar, the Death Ride is 130 miles, with 15,000 feet of vertical climbs over three mountain passes.)
