Busy Times at Saint Mary's High

It's a busy Autumn at Saint Mary's High.  The annual student fundraiser for tuition assistance and other student life initiatives kicked off on November 1.  The day before, student leaders and the student activities team hosted a "spook-tacular" Haunted Hallway in the campus administrative building.  Screams and shrieks were heard from hundreds of costume-clad students who braved the terrifying tunnel.  Parents donated candy treats for the holiday festivities.  An All Saints Day Mass followed on November 1, and Dias de los Muertos sugar skulls and memorabilia of loved ones decorate the student center during November.

In Saint Mary's Alumni News:  Class of 2013 grad and Cal Bear cornerback Caleb Coleman, was named one of two Jonathan & Judy Hoff Football Scholar-Athletes of the Week in late October.  Each week, two Cal football players earn the honor that recognizes student-athletes for their efforts in the classroom while pursuing athletics. Caleb is also a King Middle School, Berkeley, and Berkeley Arts Magnet alumnus.  He received full football scholarships to
Yale and Berkeley.

On October 23, Saint Mary's 1934 alumnus, Thomas (Mike) O'Gorman of Concord, toured his old alma mater and Berkeley hometown, and even took an at-bat at the school athletic field on which he played as a student.  O'Gorman was a teacher and football and baseball coach and is retired U.S. Air Force and father of seven.  He will be 98 in December.
