Another Tilden Park Quake & Aftershocks Rattle East Bay

Did it wake you up? Another earthquake centered in Tilden Park near Berkeley, with a preliminary magnitude of 3.2, struck at 1:07 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, followed by aftershocks of 2.7 and 2.6, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

For the second time this month, an earthquake centered on the Hayward Fault in Tilden Park near Berkeley rattled the East Bay early today, Tuesday.

The preliminary 3.2-magnitude temblor struck at 1:07 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Two aftershocks of preliminary 2.7 and 2.6 magnitudes hit at 2:06 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. respectively, the USGS said.

The location is almost exactly the same spot – about 1.5 miles northeast of the UC Berkeley main campus – as the 3.0 quake that struck at 9:26 p.m. on Oct. 6.

The depth of this morning's quakes was 7 kilometers, the USGS said, about the same as the one on Oct. 6.
