Free AHS Band Concert in Park (with Food Vendors)

The outdoor stage at Memorial Park in Albany is getting quite a workout. On Tuesday night, it will host three Albany High bands in a free concert for the community. On Sunday, it featured several local performing groups in the Arts & Green Festival.

Three of Albany High School's bands will perform a free concert for the public in Memorial Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

"The Albany community is invited to join the Albany High School bands and the Albany Community Foundation at a new and exciting event this spring," says an announcement on the foundation's website.  "On Tuesday, May 21, the AHS Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Orchestra will perform a free outdoor concert for the entire community in Memorial Park starting at 7:00 p.m."

An added attraction will be food vendors – including Fat Daddy’s BBQ, Dojo Dog, Jamba Juice and the MacGregor High School culinary arts program –  starting at 6 p.m. at the park.

"So come early and enjoy a preconcert picnic dinner in the park," the foundation's announcement says. "Of course, you may also provide your own food."

The foundation also offered thanks to those who are making it possible:

"The Albany Community Foundation is proud to sponsor this special event by providing the organizational framework, publicity, and funding.  We would like to thank Craig Bryant, Director of Instrumental Music at Albany High School and the City of Albany and the Albany Unified School District for their support in this event."

Editor's note: The attached video shows band director Craig Bryant and the school jazz band practicing on the Memorial Park stage last Friday. The jazz band is performing elsewhere Tuesday and won't be part of the Tuesday night concert, he said.
