Weekend Things: Safety Palooza, Berkeley Lab Meetings, Albany Storytelling and More
This weekend shows off the many different sides of Albany.
FRIDAY
has kicked off a new weekly party that starts as soon as your job gets out. The Mixologist DJs will spin classic jams, starting at Happy Hour and not letting up until 2 a.m. If you need to shake off some of the stress from the week, this is the place.

Join the in the city's first kick-off party to . At this event you and the kids get to hang out with Albany's police officers, take a tour of the police department, climb a rock wall, check out the inside of a police cruiser, test your safety skills and enter a raffle.

The basement of the Albany Library has been swelling with extra books, so the are holding a mini-sale to help with the overflow. There is lots of non-fiction, fiction, and arts and crafts books, as well as books for teens and kids, and a selection of tapes and DVDs. Everybody wins!

How much: All items 50 cents until 3 p.m.; $3 for a grocery bag of books between 3-4 p.m.

On , , and you'll have a chance to attend one of five meetings meant to inform the public about the proposed second campus of the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab at Golden Gate Fields. You will have a chance to share your views, opinions and expectations of this potential development. Separate meetings are being held to accommodate different schedules of Albany residents, and you will only need to attend one. .

Help a neighbor out! Roger Studley will be building and planting raised beds in his back yard this Sunday and he's inviting his neighbors to help. He'll be cooking up a pot of chili and serving up drinks, but you should feel free to bring a dish to share as well.

This afternoon of storytelling by Albany elders will focus on youth activities in the city, such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Camp Fire, Blue Birds, Cub Scounts, Brownies and Sea Scouts. Come share your story if you've had memorable experiences with these organizations.
