For those wishing to stay, there will be a "circle of remembrance" where people may say a few words about their beloved departed.

The Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos is an Indigenous pre-colonization tradition of honoring the dead.  Many tribal societies believe that the material world that we experience every day while we are alive is the "dream" world and that our true lives begin upon death.  Day of the Dead folk art makes fun of how   seriously we take life while living in this world.  Thus, there are many images of people working and various scenes of every day life.

Bring: copies of photos, drums, rattles, music makers, written memorials, offerings of food, candles, flowers, beverages, etc.

If you plan on leaving your photo(s) on the altar, please bring a copy of the original.  The altar will be disassembled after the ceremony and the photos will be disposed of in a ceremonial fire in the following week.

Please join us in honoring our beloved departed...

Free instructions on how to make your own Day of the Dead altar can be picked up at Gathering Tribes.
