Young Performers Welcome Chinese New Year in Albany

The Albany Community Center was filled Thursday afternoon with Chinese music and dance, not to mention camera-hoisting audience members and colorfully dressed young performers, as the city held a lively Chinese New Year celebration.

Young dancers and singers performed for a capacity crowd at the Albany Community Center Thursday as the city welcomed the Year of the Snake with a Chinese New Year celebration.

The colorful pageant featured the traditional entrance of a dragon born by several performers and lion dance, as well as a repertoire of dances by young students in Chinese dance classes in the city's recreation program and singing by students in the Chinese after-school program at Ocean View Elementary School.

The city offered special thanks to Ah-Lan Min, who teaches Chinese dance in the recreation program, and to Sun Wei's Chinese After-School Program, as well as to Henry Hong, Cornell School, Mr. & Mrs. Zion Lee, and Po-Wen Chen.
