Curfew Violation and Use of Police Terror Tactics on the Unarmed Homeless
At 11:00pm on Monday, October 14th, these Curfew Violation Notices were "served" to some of the Albany Bulb residents, by five Albany police officers. One of the officers was armed with what was described as either an assault rifle or a shotgun, and pointed it at residents.
When the police encountered one of the residents, she was told that, if she was caught here on the Bulb again, between 10pm and 5am, that officers could do "whatever we want", to her. They told another resident that they were going to arrest him, if they caught him violating AMC 8-4.3, again.
After giving each person a notice of curfew violation, the police radioed in, that "(person's name) has been served."
On the back of each notice, was "How to Get Help", with a suggestion that the recipient contact BFHP's "mobile outreach team".
There is currently a petition, being circulated amongst the Albany Bulb residents, expressing both their lack of faith in BFHP, and their desire to work with a different organization, in order to help them to transition off of the Bulb, and into traditional housing situations.
