Fro-Yo "As You Wish" Hits Solano Soon

Read a Q&A below with Solano's newest frozen yogurt shop, where you'll find speciality flavors in a self-serve environment.

Albany Patch recently connected with the owner of a new frozen yogurt shop schedule to open on Solano Avenue in time for the Stroll on Sunday. Find at 1205 Solano. Read on to learn about the avenue's latest venture.

Q: Can you state your name and occupation?

A: My name is Bonnee Elterman and I am opening ‘As You Wish’ self-serve frozen yogurt with the help of my husband Abraham. I am a designer/ house renovator. I help people with design projects primarily in remodeling kitchens and bathrooms. Abraham is an artist (painter), and his studio is in Oakland. His website is www.abrahamelterman.com.

What's your Albany connection?

We have lived in the area for a long time (Berkeley, Oakland), as well as in Albany in the 90s, and we now live in Albany again. We have four boys, all of which went through as children, so we have strong connections to the area. We envision As You Wish as a fun place to gather, especially in the evening, after dinner or the movies, as lower Solano does not have many options for family and friends to visit beyond the restaurants in the area.

Tell me about your shop. How will it stand out among other fro yo spots?

We both love design and we love food, so we decided to open As You Wish. We are designing a warm and friendly neighborhood spot in lower Solano. The great thing about frozen yogurt is that it is healthy and delicious, and that can be enjoyed year-round by people of all ages. The self-serve part of the shop is really fun and it allows people to customize their serving.

I have always loved cooking and baking, and meals are a special time for our family. I guess this is the impulse behind this new venture.

We plan to buy much of our fresh fruit from local farmers markets and we will feature gourmet, delicious toppings, some that we create, like mango and mint, or spicy pineapple, and some that we will get from well-known vendors and that people have grown to love in our area, like Semifreddi’s biscotti bits, or Café Fanny's organic granola.

In terms of design, the shop at As You Wish will have several unique design features that we think will make it a special place. For example, we are having a custom-made steel wall built to house the yogurt machines. We are also making the tabletops for our tables out of acrylic resin with fun surprises floating inside.

What flavors are you planning?

We will have six flavors daily. Usually a chocolate, vanilla bean and tart;  the other three will rotate to include flavors like coffee, cookies and cream, acai blueberry, thin mint cookies, dulce de leche, peanut butter, etc. We will have a way for people to vote on our website for the flavors they would like to see more often.

Anything else you want to add?

We hope to work with the and benefit their art programs, which are close to our hearts.

Our plan is to be open in time for the , which is Sept. 11. Afterward, we will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. during the week, and later on the weekends. At the beginning we will not have wifi.

Where can people find you online?
