Letter: Sylvia McLaughlin Offers 'Second Campus' Clarification

The Save the Bay founder said she has spoken in favor of the Golden Gate Fields location, but not specifically about the Stronach Group's proposal.

[Albany Patch would love your 300-word letters to the editor. . This letter was provided to Albany Patch by Norman La Force, and was dated Aug. 6, 2011. A separate letter, which was sent to the Stronach Group and also was provided by La Force, is attached here.]

It has come to my attention that The Stronach Group is claiming in public that I have endorsed or support its proposal for the site as a location for both the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Second Campus and the Stronach Group's proposed development project at the site.

I also understand that the Stronach Group is showing a portion of a videotaped interview with me in which I discuss the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Second Campus and is representing to the public that in this video I have endorsed the Stronach Group proposal.

I have not endorsed the Stronach Group's proposal. I was interviewed about the opportunity the Golden Gate Fields site provided for the Second Campus. I was not shown the Stronach Group's proposal when its representatives interviewed me. At no time did I state to anyone that I supported or endorsed the Stronach Group proposal.

I only discussed the appropriateness of the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Second Campus at the Golden Gate Fields site without reference to The Stronach Group proposal or the specific map that the Stronach Group is showing to the public which includes the Stronach Group proposal.
