Visions for Vacancies: Solano and Curtis

What would you like to see at the vacant space at Solano Avenue and Curtis Street?

There’s been a vacant space next to House of Curries for some time. We would like to know what you would like to see here.

This space is located at 1495 Solano Ave. next to House of Curries and The Sunny Side Cafe. It used to be a Bank of America Home Mortgage office. The space has over 3,000 sq ft and is currently set up to be an office but it may be possible to convert it to another type of business.

Some of you have asked for another coffee shop with more seating or a hardware store. This space might work for that.

Submit your suggestions on Spotmojo using this link: http://www.spotmojo.com/openspot/1495solano/

You can also use the code “1495Solano” on Spotmojo to find this spot.

Albany Patch is working with Spotmojo to collect your suggestions for vacancies. Spotmojo is a website where you can suggest the businesses you want where you live, work, or play. The suggestions are provided to new businesses and commercial real estate brokers to help new businesses find their ideal location. This gives you a voice in the businesses that open in your neighborhood and it helps local businesses succeed.

How about a liquor store?

Sadly, most businesses with any sense of vision choose to locate elsewhere. Albany has simply become unfriendly to business and the community suffers the consequences.

What Irony ... where that building and the House of Curries and Sunnyside are, used to be where Michaels Liquors was , until it went up in flames more than 20 years ago!!

Dear OP, Michael Hsueh: Please stop the spam. Your 'visions for vacanies' are a clear nudge to push the public to your own website: 'spotlessmojo.' The PATCH, in allowing this crap, is pushing itself into 'waste bin' at an ever increasing rate, IMHO. The David Mills (spaming from South San Francisco to El Cerrito regarding 'older home listings' is similar... but wait...that clown WORKS for the Patch; go figure).

Hi Tatter. A lot of Patch sites have been running these types of articles for years. For the most part they're just to engage readers, but Patch doesn't do anything with the suggestions readers provide. We actually do. We provide the data to commercial real estate brokers and new businesses so we try to match what people want with what businesses want to open. If you're happy with the businesses in your neighborhood already then you may not find us that useful, no problem, but there are people who do have some unmet needs that they need closer to them. Spotmojo is just a tool but is part of a bigger theme: making neighborhoods more walkable, helping small businesses, and adapting to the new retail landscape that's been changed by ecommerce. Let me know if you have other questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them. - Michael

Hi Dee, although I live close by I don't know much about the situation in Albany. Is it Albany city related requirements (permits, zoning, etc...)?

"We provide the data to commercial real estate brokers and new businesses so we try to match what people want with what businesses want to open." This explains the plethora of nail salons on or around Solano Avenue. Good job!

Michael, In a nutshell, Yes.
