"What This Neighborhood Needs..."

... is a good, what? What does this neighborhood need? The City of Lafayette would like to hear your thoughts.

Planners for the City of Lafayette would be pleased to hear your suggestions for a new business to fill this currently vacant space in the Happy Valley Shopping Center at 3629 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

The rather non-descript center is home to some formidable Lafayette businesses, including: Johnny's Donuts and Round Table Pizza. Handlebar Toys is leaving later this month.

What sort of business would you like to see occupy the space?

I agree...demolish and start over.

Dude- Walk a few hundred feet towards the Trader Joe's and stop just before you reach, look left. You will see a Hawaiin BBQ called Lava Pit. It's been there for 2 years.

No small business will be set-up for success renting there. It's not just non-descript—it's an eyesore with terrible parking. Why would anyone desire to shop there? If you want to keep spending money in the town—you need to consider an experience (not just store) that would attract them. So either you have one helluva upgrade on your hands or redo. Either way you need to spend money—and find it highly unlikely that the owner who obviously doesn't like to spend any dough will decide to do this.

Of course you are absolutely correct. It will likely take a large developer purchasing this entire parcel(s) and doing a total redevelopment on a large scale. I would predict a contentious entitlement process that would take years to mitigate.

We could use a good taqueria to replace the loss across the street of Numero Uno, or a good greasy burger place to replace Flippers. Not sure if its big enough, but Lafayette could also use a Vietnamese place, and a full-service Greek place, and even Ethiopian or Malaysian. And its definitely not big enough for this, but we also need another good all around family restaurant and a sports bar and/or Irish pub.
