Blog: Geese and Turkeys and Deer, Oh My!

A look at Albany's Wildlife: A photo visit with the deer and turkeys of Albany.

I have been sad ever since from the Gill Tract. That piece of land between San Pablo and Jackson along Buchanan seems so bare coming down Marin now. However, Wednesday I renewed my appreciation for the farm at my doorstep.

At sunset I went to the the Gill Tract to capture a few shots of the wild turkeys that I've seen making themselves at home in the field. As I parked in front of Ocean View I saw a four-point buck and a doe casually walk across the field.

"Wow," I thought as I grabbed my camera, "what a photo opp!" Unfortunately he disappeared into the corn rows before I could get out of the car. She however posed for a few shots among the ubiquitous geese.

Those of us that live on Albany Hill have often down our streets or through our yards. We have always wondered, how do these graceful beings get across San Pablo or Buchanan alive? Has anyone seen them crossing these major streets?

I have also seen the wild turkeys marching up Jackson in the early morning light but I never can get to my camera fast enough. Today the turkeys were quietly foraging on the far side of the , so I was able to shoot a few, with my camera, of course. They won't be on my Thanksgiving table either.

When I uploaded the images, I discovered a hawk in one of the photos. Maybe the first one to tell us which picture it is can win a prize.

The best prize of all is a visit to our own wild life sanctury at sunset with or with- out a camera, and it's avaliable free to everyone.
