It was a Gothic novel, gardners nightmare, horror movie...with little bits of bulb strewn about the yard. Their half-eaten and teeth-marked, tiny broken white dead bodies were everywhere. Oh the carnage!
I covered my eyes and wept...then planted more...the drama repeated until I surrendered...to the beady-eyed beasties..."YOU WIN " I cried and left the killing fields a broken gardener.

Like Persephone returning in the Spring, this single brave Crocus appeared in all her purple, lavender glory. Welcome brave Lady!
What dark earthy being guarded this brave soul I do not know, but I do thank them, for today THE FIRST CROCUS blooms in my yard at last. All is well for now.
Any ideas about how to guard against those hungry, bulb chomping squirrels for next year would be appreciated.
