Earthquake Rattles East Bay Thursday Afternoon

A quake measuring 3.3 was centered near Oakland on Thursday.

The U.S. Geological Survey has reported that an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.3 struck the East Bay on Thursday afternoon.

The quake shook an area near Oakland at 4:48 p.m., according to the USGS. The quake had a depth of 9.5 miles.

The latitude and longitude coordinates provided by the USGS (37.780°N, 122.205°W) place the epicenter of the tremor in Oakland just south of Interstate 580 near High Street, not far from Mills College.

The quake comes just days after a  centered near the Oakland Zoo rolled through the East Bay on Sunday.
