Linda Rugg, an associate professor at UC Berkeley and an Albanian, gave a talk on Mark Twain's perceived beliefs about race. Frustrated with a simplified portrayal of Twain at her son's school she insisted that, for his time, Twain had very progressive views on race. Kensington Library's celebration of Twain continues through October.

After a series of daytime burglaries in the North Berkeley hills, Berkeley police noticed a pattern and issued a heads-up to residents. Read these five tips for keeping your home secure, and collaborate with neighbors to create a safer environment.

Join The Watershed Project and the city of Albany at the for the 27th annual Coastal Cleanup Day, a California-wide volunteer day that brings communities together to clean up the coastline throughout the state. Register to volunteer (yep, you'll have to sign a waiver) and make it a family affair by bringing the kids to help. There's also a clean-up , so take your pick, and find a way to give back Saturday morning.
