Weekend Things: Dance, FilmFest, the Great Unleashing

Here is a quick glance at just some of the events happening this weekend in Albany and beyond.

Friday


  • 's Advanced Dance class will present an eclectic program that includes hip hop, lyrical and country dance performances. If you miss the performance on Thursday at 7 p.m., make sure to catch it Friday at 8 p.m.

  • It's the day we've all been waiting for! Albany's first annual film festival will include some award-winning short films, even shorter amateur films and lots of popcorn. Find out more details in by and join other film buffs at the .

  • Come to to meet Sosakete, a Mohawk potter who reintroduced the art of traditional tribal pottery that had not been made in over 400 years. He will be on hand to tell his story and answer questions Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • presents another Old World music concert as part of its Music Around the World series. This concert is presented by the Multi-Cultural Music Fellowship. Teed Rockwell will be a special guest on guitar and percussion.

    • This event at the will include a discussion on sustainability, a guest speaker from the Post Carbon Institute, poetry, and performances by rapper AshEL Eldridge and the contra dance band Crow for Day.
      How much: $10 adults; free for children


    • May is Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and you can celebrate at this event, which will include an internationally renowned taiko player, a jazz group from Hiroshima and Okinawan dance. Grab some Japanese or Hawaiian food, participate in a silent auction and let the kids play carnival games from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.
