Experiencing Prison Confinement
With a UN Perspective
Speakers: Shane Bauer and Sarah Shourd
At this East Bay UNA Dinner-Forum, Sarah Shourd and Shane Bauer will generously share thoughts and reflections on their lengthy detention in Iran. Sarah was in prison for over a year, the entire time in solitary. Shane was in prison for over two years, more than four months in solitary. They will comment on solitary confinement as carried out in the U.S. and internationally.
The United Nations considers solitary confinement to be torture or other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment, all of which are violations of solemn treaty obligations.
