Supervisor Carson's News and Updates: Earth Day 2012 Events, East Bay AIDS Walk and Translation Workshop
Dear Friends,
This weekend marks the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day, our opportunity to pause and reflect about how we can reduce our impact on the Earth and increase the health and beauty of our natural landscape. In District 5, there are numerous festivals, celebrations, workshops and clean-ups to help you connect with your neighbors and contribute to Earth Day. This year, my staff and I have committed to eating a vegetarian diet for Oakland/Alameda County Veg Week (April 15–21,
2012). You can learn about events taking place this week and the benefits of a plant-based diet for your health and for the Earth at http://oaklandveg.com/.
Please see below for a listing of Earth Day events in District 5, other community events taking place this week, and resources and news from around the district.

A Berkeley couple was recently featured on the PBS News Hour for developing a “solar suitcase” that provides a portable light source for hospitals that often experience power outages in developing countries. Their invention helps save
