Saddened After Last Week's Loss

Some thoughts about traffic safety following last week's crash between the skateboarder and car on Marin.

I was really saddened to read about the accident and the death of the skateboarder, Tyler. I was also very upset for the driver of the car.

I was reminded of something that happened to me a while back at El Cerrito Plaza. I was in my car edging out of a stop sign, looking to my right and my left.

There were no pedestrians and there was no oncoming traffic, so I continued, and the next thing I heard was a smash and saw something out of the corner of my eye.

Horrified I braked to see a skateboarder had crashed into the front of my right bumper.

He picked himself up, picked up his board, thumped my car with his fist, and was gone!

All of this happened in the proverbial blink of an eye. Please, skateboarders: Watch out for cars. I am sure most cars watch out for you. My deepest sympathies to all those involved.
