Another close one, and reduce, reuse, recycle

Some first thoughts about the race, and a request to please return lawn signs and buttons for reuse.

It's hard to write this, of course. I'd rather be writing about all the things I would do on City Council. Instead, however, it's time to congratulate Peggy Thomsen, Peter Maass, and Michael Barnes for their City Council wins, and President Obama for his reelection. Thanks to all the candidates for a good race and for putting in the time and effort. Thanks to all my supporters, and thanks to those who did not support me but thanked me for running nonetheless. They realize the blood, sweat and tears that goes into doing something like this, and appreciate us candidates wanting to serve the city.

This election was marked by many unexpected events for me, including the fact that there were 7 candidates. It's not the race I expected to run!

From my experience, there are still some ballots to be counted. Absentee ballots that were dropped off the day of the election are still to be counted ( that includes mine - at least one more vote for me! :) ), as well as any provisional ballots, I believe. You should see the total number of votes go up here http://www.acgov.org/rov/current_election/index.htm . Click on the City folder on the left to find Albany results. My experience has been that I don't expect the percentages to change much over time, however.

My campaign costs were a bit lower than 4 years ago when I ran, because I reused campaign materials, including lawn signs. If you could, please return any buttons and lawn signs you have to me. You can leave them on the porch or in the yard of 634 San Carlos Ave. I will also pick up lawn signs as I see them around town. If you return signs to me, it would be helpful if you would mark your address on the signs so I know where they came from and I don't go to pick them up only to find that you have already brought them to me.

Ulan McKnight also requests return of his signs to 1034 Talbot Ave., Sheri Spellwoman to 1061 Cornell Ave., and Pete Maass to 1496 Sonoma Ave. Other candidates might want to add a comment to this post if they wish their materials returned. I will also take the signs of any other candidates and save at least the wire supports.

Thanks again for all the support.

This is not only an eyesore. This is a health hazard. The boards you see in the photo have nailsRead More sticking out. This area has become the trash heap for anyone walking by wanting to dispose of garbage. With bins overflowing, trash is blown down the street into residents' yards.

Another example of more balanced reporting from Berkeleyside article:Read More http://www.berkeleyside.com/2013/05/17/uc-berkeley-seeks-funds-to-cut-down-22000-non-native-trees/. Some of the comments are useful especially about glyphosphate. The author of the article even used his own name.

The source cited in this announcement states up to 1,400 gallons of herbicide possibly includingRead More Roundup might be used rather than 14,000 gallons of Roundup will be used. Not that I am in favor of dosing the environment with petrochemicals, but I do like to make decisions based on facts. I also have to wonder about the accuracy of the source given that it is an opinion piece rather than an article.

And now for the more balanced reporting: "But U.C. Berkeley wants to remove most of its 22,000Read More eucalyptus and acacia trees, then restore native species like they did in the Claremont Canyon." From this article: http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/local/east_bay&id=9107025
