Alameda Radio Evangelist Who Forecast End of World Dies

Harold Camping's predictions that the world would end in 2011 received widespread media attention.

Harold Camping, the Alameda radio preacher who wrongly predicted the end of the world twice in 2011, died late Sunday afternoon, Dec. 15, according to a statement released by the Family Radio Network. He was 92.

Camping founded the Family Radio Network, a worldwide network of Christian radio stations, in the 1950s. He predicted that the world would end on May 21, 2011, in his book "1994?" He later revised the date to Oct. 21, 2011.

The Fernside area resident had a stroke later in 2011 and suffered a fall at his home on Nov. 30 of this year, according to a report from Religion News Service.

Family Radio sold many of its stations in 2011 and its assets declined from $135 milion in 2007 to $29.2 million by 2011, the report says.

Camping is survived by his wife of 71 years, the Famiiy Radio sttaement says.
