Albany Community Foundation Seeks Funds to Help Albany Project Hope

As the days become shorter and the nights chillier, let us take time to think of those who live out doors without many of the comforts we take for granted. Your help is urgently needed at this time to assist members of our community who are transitioning from their current state of homelessness with the help of the Berkeley Food and Housing Project.

The City of Albany has created a partnership, known as Albany Project Hope, with Berkeley Food & Housing Project (BF&HP) and the Solano Community Church to assist those living unsheltered in Albany find permanent housing (or, if appropriate or necessary, alternatives such as transitional housing, return to families, homeless shelters, residential care or other living situations).  The goal is to provide this opportunity to everyone before November.

Private donations are needed to help those who are relocating and moving towards self-sufficiency. Contributions will be used to pay for personal items such as showers, haircuts, and appropriate clothes for employment/housing interviews, and to provide basic furnishings for those moving into unfurnished places.

ACF initiated discussions with local homeless advocates during the spring, seeking ways in which we could support those in need.  We have now agreed to solicit and accept donations to assist BF&HP in this effort. Checks should be made out to the Albany Community Foundation and mailed to ACF 1164 Solano Ave. Box 133, Albany CA 94706.  Appropriate gift cards are also welcome.  All donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.  Our tax ID number is 33-1173216.

The Albany Community Foundation will match the first $500.00 in donations.

ACF aspires to build a coalition of community organizations, faith based, service, and environmental, to join with us on this effort.  Please contact me at acf@albanycommunityfoundation.org to learn how your organization can become involved.

We hope that you, either as an individual or an organization, will help provide much needed support to those in our community who are struggling.  There are a myriad of reasons to join in this effort and I hope you find it in your heart to participate.
