Albany Local Week - Friday's Edition

Local Week – Friday

We are in the home stretch of Albany Local Week.  Is your score card filling up?  After enjoying all of the events of the week, keeping track of your points and figuring out how to maximize your score don’t forget to submit your score sheet. You must turn it in to the Recreation Department in the Community Center by October 4.  The winner will be announced at the October 7 City Council meeting.  All participants will receive a limited edition prize.  Have you seen the trophy?  It is on display at the Community Center and is certainly one of a kind.

Tonight’s special events include “Bike Around Town”. http://www.albanyca.org/index.aspx?page=1016. This family friendly event emphases road rules and explores favorite bicycle routes. Grab your helmet and pump up your tires and meet at Wheels of Justice, 1554 Solano Ave. at 6:30. Stay for the after party with entertainment, snacks, raffle prizes and local discounts to Solano Avenue businesses. Thank you to Albany Strollers and Rollers and Wheels of Justice for their support with this event.

Berlin Style Ping Pong will be @the Center tonight, http://www.albanyca.org/index.aspx?page=1173 .  How do you play? A group of people surround a table, whoever is in the server spot serves the first ball to the person directly across from them, and then moves out of the way, to the right. The person to the server's left takes their place and the rest of the circle moves counterclockwise. If someone messes up they are out. When there are two players left, they play until someone scores three points and wins. Bring paddles. I am certainly going to try to stop by the Community Center between 7:00- 8:30 to check this out.

Have you looked at the wide variety of special offers by local business for this week?  The Albany Local Week page of the City web site, http://www.albanyca.org/Index.aspx?page=1044, links you to a list of amazing deals from local restaurants, spas, professional services, and specialty shops.  We are so fortunate to have such generous merchants in our town – let’s get out there and support them.  Be sure to say thank you for their participation in Local Week.
