Albany Local Week - Wednesday's Edition

Albany Local Week – Wednesday

We are nearing the midpoint of Local Week. Hopefully your score card is filling up with events and activities.  Did you get to the garden swap or clothing swap last night?  Good points available there.  I saw a lot of you at the Board of Education meeting last night – not only did you have the opportunity to honor the various school funder groups, but could also get credit for a “Good Neighbor” activity.

Finally taking time to read the ENTIRE score care, I see that last Saturday’s Friends of the Albany Library book sale can be counted as a special event.  I know many of you were there searching for that perfect novel or mystery.

Today you can grab some produce or other treats at the Farmer’s Market and head over to Memorial Park for Music in the Park.  Stompy Jones will delight you with their jumping rhythm and explosive stage show. Thank you, Target for funding this fabulous community event.

Also this evening at 6:30 at City Hall, the Planning & Zoning Commission will review and take public comment on preparation of the Housing Element portion of the City of Albany General Plan. http://albanyca.org/index.aspx?page=16&recordid=5562&returnURL=%2findex.aspx%3fpage%3d1.  The study session will include discussion of the Needs Assessment and the Goals, Policies, and Actions portions of the Housing Element. In addition to learning about this very important element in our General Plan, you will earn more “Good Neighbor” points.  Coupled with a trip to the Farmer’s Market or a local restaurant your points will soar.

For those of you who like to look ahead, the Senior Center is holding an open house tomorrow (Thursday) from 9 – 5.  Stop by and see all that the Center has to offer – you will be amazed at the variety of offerings. The City web site has complete details, http://albanyca.org/index.aspx?page=16&recordid=7389&returnURL=%2findex.aspx%3fpage%3d1

End the day with the Pizza & Wine Block Party from 5:00 – 8:00 on the corner of Ordway and Solano.  Little Star Pizza and Solano Cellars will have their delicious pizza and wines available for purchase while you enjoy visiting with your neighbors and friends.

There is a wide assortment of events in the next few days to celebrate Local Week.  Even if you are not keeping score, I hope you participate in some of them.  This is a wonderful opportunity to simply enjoy our community and all that it has to offer.
