2 Street Robberies in Albany Sunday, Making 4 in 9 Days

Two robberies were reported in Albany Sunday, one at gunpoint on Key Route Boulevard in the afternoon and the other in the early evening when a woman was pushed to the sidewalk on San Pablo Avenue. Albany had two other robberies the weekend before.

Two street robberies were reported in Albany Sunday, including one involving a semiautomatic handgun in the middle of the afternoon on Key Route Boulevard, police said.

The other involved a young woman who was pushed to the sidewalk on San Pablo Avenue early Sunday evening.

The two robberies followed two other street robberies in Albany on the previous weekend.

First robbery Sunday

In the first robbery, a man and a woman, both 32-year-old Albany residents, were out cleaning their car in the 900 block of Key Route about 2:50 p.m. when another car pulled up and two males got out and approached the couple, said Police Sgt. Tom Dolter.

One of the suspects held a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded the victims' property. The man relinquished his wallet and cell phone, and the woman handed over her purse containing a cell phone and other items, Dolter said.

The two robbers ran back to the waiting car that was driven by a third male, he said.

The vehicle was a newer, silver Chevy Malibu sedan last seen going south on Key Route toward Marin, Dolter said.

The three suspects were described as black, with the armed suspect being in his late teens, about 5-feet, 10-inches tall with black dreadlocks and wearing a black hooded sweater and jeans. The second suspect who exited the vehicle was described as thin, also in his late teens, about 6-feet tall and wearing a maroon sweater. No further description was provided of the driver.

Second robbery Sunday

About 7:32 p.m., a 22-year-old Albany woman was walking in the 600 block of San Pablo Avenue when she was suddenly pushed down to the sidewalk from behind, Dolter said.

Her purse was grabbed from her arm by one of two males who then ran away together south on San Pablo and then east on Portland Avenue, Dolter said. The two suspects were described as black, possibly in their early 20s, wearing black jackets and jeans.

The woman, who lost her cell phone along with her purse, complained of pain in her right knee, Dolter said.

Earlier robbery on Saturday, Oct. 26

At 11:12 p.m. on Oct. 26, an Albany woman flagged down an Albany police officer on Solano Avenue and reported that she was just robbed of her purse while walking on Solano at Talbot, said Albany Police Lt. John Geissberger.

A suspect came running up from behind and ripped the purse off her shoulder, Geissberger said.

The suspect was described as a black male, about 17-20 years old, 5-feet, 9-inches tall, medium build and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans, Geissberger said.

This robbery was reported in less detail in the Oct. 26 Albany police log, which was published by Patch on Nov. 3.

Carjacking on Friday night, Oct. 25

A 47-year-old worker at an Albany restaurant was the victim of an armed carjacking on Ramona Avenue, half a block from Solano, at 9:12 p.m. on Oct. 25, according to Albany police.

More details about that robbery can be found in the Oct. 26 Patch article, "Carjacking at Gunpoint in Albany Friday Night."
