3 More Robberies in Albany – 4 in a Week

There were three more robberies in Albany last week, following Monday's holdup at Max's Liquors. One occurred Wednesday afternoon when two men pointed a semi-automatic at a father as he got out of his car with his son, police said.

Three more robberies occurred in Albany last week, in addition to the Monday robbery at Max's Liquors that left a store co-owner bleeding from a pistol blow to the head, according to Albany police.

In one case, a man was getting out of his car with his son on Wednesday afternoon when he was robbed at gunpoint by two men, police said.

In another case – the robbery of a 14-year-old's laptop at Memorial Park Friday night – police arrested a suspect, a 17-year-old male, according to police.

The third case involved an iPhone taken from a man at a bus stop on San Pablo Avenue Friday night.

Armed robbery on Jackson

At 3:51 p.m. Wednesday, a man had just pulled his vehicle into his carport in the 500 block of Jackson Street and was getting out with his son when he was confronted by two suspects, one of whom aimed a small, semi-automatic handgun at the man and demanded his watch, according to Detective Sgt. Dave Bettencourt.

The other suspect demanded the victim's wallet, and the pair fled on foot with victim's property, Bettencourt said. A witness saw them get into "an older burgundy colored Nissan Altima being driven by another suspect" that drove away, Bettencourt said.

The two suspects were described as black males, he said. The one with the gun was 18-20 years old, clean-cut and wearing a polo shirt and jeans, Bettencourt said. The other one was 18-24 years old, clean-cut and wearing a turquoise-colored, zippered sweat jacket, he said. There was no description of the driver.

Robbery at Memorial Park, suspect arrested

Another robbery was reported at 9:38 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park, police said.

A 14-year-old male playing with friends saw someone take his backpack off of a bench, said Police Lt. Daniel Adams. The youth confronted the suspect, who slapped the victim's hands away and "simulated a weapon in his waistband and threatened to stab the victim," Adams said.

The robber took a laptop from the backpack and fled on foot, Adams said.

"Albany Police officers located and detained the suspect (a 17 year old male) 4 blocks away," Adams told Patch via email. "He was identified by the victim at the scene, arrested for robbery, and the stolen laptop was recovered near the location where the suspect was stopped."

The suspect was taken to Alameda County Juvenile Hall, Adams said.

Bus stop robbery on San Pablo

At 10:40 p.m. Friday, a young man was using an iPhone as he waited with another young man at a bus stop near Solano and San Pablo avenues, Adams said.

Two strangers approached the pair, and one of them asked when the bus was coming, Adams said. Then one of the strangers grabbed the iPhone, and both fled north on San Pablo.

The suspects were described as African-American males in their early to mid-20s, according to Adams. One is 5-feet 9-inches, medium build, with a white t-shirt, jeans, and red Air Jordan sneakers. The other is 5-feet, 5-inches tall, wearing a black bandana on his head and a dark-colored shirt, Adams said.
