According to PG&E's coverage map, almost 20,000 customers lost power due to nine reported outages Monday night.
The outage began around 8 p.m. when 12,425 customers lost their power, PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris told Bay City News Service. PG&E crews responded to a substation in Berkeley believed to be where the outage began to try to determine its cause. At the time of this report, workers had not determined the cause of the outage, and no estimate for restoration was available, Bay City News reported.
Some neighborhoods reported power returning briefly around 10:30 p.m.
As of 2:50 a.m., about 140 people remained without power, according to PG&E's outage map.
