Police Arrest Alleged Driver in Hit-and-Run with Cyclists

Police arrested an Oakland man on Friday in connection with a hit-and-run accident that .

Capt. Andrew Greenwood of the Berkeley Police Department released a statement Friday just after 9 p.m. in which he announced the arrest of 43-year-old Michael Patrick Medaglia, "the registered owner of the vehicle which was involved in the hit-and-run collision on Tunnel Road on Wednesday..."

According to Greenwood's statement, Medaglia reported his car stolen on Wednesday after the accident. Friday, Oakland police officers found the car, and alerted the Berkeley Police Department to its discovery.

Berkeley Police ultimately tracked Medaglia down at the Jack London Inn in Oakland late Friday afternoon, said Greenwood. 

He was arrested in connection with possession of heroin, being a felon in possession of ammunition, violation of probation, and felony hit-and-run.

Police said Medaglia’s misdemeanor probation violation stemmed from an August 2010 case related to possession of a switchblade.

Medaglia is being held with a bail of $100,000 at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, according to the Alameda County sheriff's department. He is scheduled for arraignment on Oakland on April 30.
