Break-in Caught on Video – Police Ask Help Finding Burglars

Police are seeking the public's help in locating two males shown on a home surveillance video breaking into an El Cerrito home about 11 a.m. Tuesday. The video, posted on YouTube by the homeowner, accompanies this article.

El Cerrito police are asking for the public's help in identifying two males recorded on home surveillance video breaking into a home through the front door.

The break-in occurred about 11 a.m. Tuesday, police said, and the video was posted on YouTube by the homeowner.

It begins with one of the suspects knocking on the front door. About three minutes into the five-minute video, it shows both suspects at the front door, one keeping watch while the other tries to jimmy the door with a crowbar and then kicks the door open.

After the door is kicked in, one of the suspects notices the camera and strikes it with the crowbar.

Another, related video posted on YouTube by the homeowner runs for eight minutes, showing the home's front yard and begins with the pair pulling up to the front of the home in a dark car and then departing, evidently carrying items from the home with them.

"The burglars did not realize they were being recorded by a home video surveillance system until it was too late," according to police.

"If you know the identity of either suspect, or see them on the streets, please call the El Cerrito Police," police said.

El Cerrito police can be contacted at 510-237-3233.
