Carjacking at Gunpoint in Albany Friday Night

In a rare carjacking in Albany, a restaurant worker who'd just gotten off work was robbed of his car, cell phone and wallet by an armed man Friday evening on Ramona Avenue, about half a block from Solano Avenue, police said.

A restaurant employee who just got off from work was the victim of an armed carjacking in Albany on Ramona Avenue, about half a block from Solano Avenue, on Friday night, police said.

About 9:12 p.m., the restaurant worker was in his Chevrolet Impala sedan in the tree-lined 800 block of Ramona placing a food order at another restaurant on his iPhone when someone tapped on the car window, according to Albany Police Sgt. Tom Dolter.

The man in the car, a 47-year-old El Sobrante residient, looked up to see a man in a gray hoodie with the hood pulled up pointing a black semiautomatic handgun at him, Dolter said.

The robber demanded the vehicle, the phone and the victim's wallet, all of which the victim surrendered without resistance, Dolter said. The victim was told to walk away, which he did. When he looked back, he saw the car being driven off, Dolter said.

The car was a 2012, silver Impala, and the suspect was described as black, of medium build, about 30 years old and 5-feet, 11-inches tall, with a mustache, Dolter said.
