Colossal Inferno – Time-Lapse of Rim Fire at Yosemite

This U.S. Forest Service time-lapse video of the Rim Fire at Yosemite National Park captures the enormous fury of the mammoth fire that has devoured 348 square miles, including Berkeley's Camp Tuolumne.

The stunning power and scale of the mammoth Rim Fire in the Sierras is vividly illustrated in the accompanying time-lapse video from the U.S. Forest Service.

It shows the devastating inferno from Yosemite National Park, part of which has burned in the flames. The video was posted on YouTube on Aug. 28.

As of 6:30 p.m. tonight, Saturday, the fire had consumed 348 square miles and was 40 percent contained, with an uncontrolled border exceeding 107 miles, according to the Forest Service. More than 5,000 personnel are battling the flames.

It the largest fire in the United States so far this year, and the fifth largest in California history, the Fire Service said. It's swath of destruction includes Berkeley's 91-year-old Camp Tuolumne.
