Police Calls: Shirtless Shoplifter with Fishing Pole Reported at Safeway

The Albany police log for June 28-29 includes a shirtless shoplifter with a trench coat and fishing pole seen six times at Safeway, five arrests, an injury accident, vandalism of all the tires on a vehicle and theft of $1 and keys at the Albany pool.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Friday, June 28

Injury accident – At 6:16 a.m., police logged a report of an injury accident involving a gray Acura and parked Lexus sedan at Solano and Cerrito. Disposition: Case report taken.

Lost camera bag, wallet, car keys – At 11:46 a.m., police received a report of lost Canon camera bag with two black straps, a wallet and car keys at the Albany Bulb. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided. 

Auto burglary – At 12:06 p.m., police received a report of auto being broken into over night on Carmel. Nothing of value was taken. The reporting party doesn't know the vehicle was accessed. Disposition: Case report taken.

$1 and keys stolen at pool – At 3:24 p.m., police received a report of $1 and keys taken at the Albany pool on Portland. Disposition: Case report taken.

Trash attracting rats – At 4:10 p.m., police received a complaint that two people living in a trailer on Masonic are putting trash in front that is attracting rats. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Saturday, June 29

Drunk/disorderly arrest – At 1:58 a.m., police arrested an Albany male at 727 San Pablo Ave. on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. 

Drunk/disorderly arrest – At 2:19 a.m., police arrested a Vallejo male at 841 San Pablo Ave. on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. The arrest followed a 2:09 a.m. call log entry of officer-initiated activity at H & Y Massage on San Pablo.

Bicyclist arrested
 At 2:44 a.m., police arrested a Fremont male on a bicycle at 1164 Solano on suspicion of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrest followed an officer-initiated stop.

DUI arrest
 – At 3:24 a.m., police arrested a female assistant manager from Vacaville at Central and Pierce on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Vandalism to tires – At 9:46 a.m., police received a report of all the tires being damaged and flat on vehicle on Masonic. It happened overnight on June 25. Disposition: Case report taken.

Suspicious circumstance - At 12:10 p.m., a reporting party in the police lobby said he saw a man in a black SUV parked on Castro and San Pablo holding up a bullet in a threatening manner 45 minutes earlier. No other weapons were seen. Disposition: Log note only.  

Identity theft – At 12:21 p.m., police received a report that a Citibank account containing less than $1,000 had been opened in the reporting party's name. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run – At 2:03 p.m., a person reported damage from a hit and run at Albany Bowl about 20 minutes earlier and requested contact from police. Disposition: Log note only.

Suspicious circumstance – At 3:27 p.m., a person reported seeing some subjects rummaging through two vehicles next to the owner trainer lot near the water at Golden Gate Fields. The subjects were confronted by security and departed. Disposition: Log note only.

Catalytic converter stolen – At 8:36 p.m., police received a report of a catalytic converter being taken at Gateview and Washington. Disposition: Case report taken.

Shirtless shoplifter with fishing pole at Safeway – At 10:34 p.m., police received a report of a shoplifter at Safeway who just left two minutes earlier. The suspect has been in the store six times in two days and quickly takes specific items. He was described as black in his late 30s, 6-feet 6-inches tall, husky build with no shirt and a floor-length trench coat and fishing pole. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Pedestrian arrested – The police call log includes an entry at 10:41 p.m. saying an arrest was made at the Buchanan Interchange as a result of officer-initiated check of a pedestrian. (The entry does not say what the arrest was for, and the arrest log did not list it.)
