Cyclist "Lucky to Be Alive" After Collision on Buchanan
Police said the accident could easily have been much worse.
An accident Saturday on Buchanan Street sent a cyclist who was not wearing a helmet to the hospital after he was struck by a car, authorities said.
The accident happened just before 7 p.m. on Buchanan Street.
The cyclist was trying to ride south on Pierce Street across the westbound lanes of Buchanan, said Sgt. Chris Willis of the .

There's a "no left turn" sign from Pierce onto Buchanan.
The cyclist was not wearing a helmet, and was struck squarely by the car, which ended up with a smashed windshield as a result of the collision.

The cyclist, who appeared to be in his 20s, was taken to the hospital; he was alert and didn't seem to have broken bones, said Willis. He was not an Albany resident.
"The cyclist may not have known how fast drivers are going there," Willis said. "He's real lucky that he didn't get killed."
