Driver Strikes 2 in Taco Bell Crosswalk

Both pedestrians were transported by the Berkeley Fire Department to the hospital. Officials said their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Two young men were struck by a driver in the crosswalk near  on Thursday evening, officials said.

The driver was cited by police for failing to yield, and both victims were taken to the hospital, officials said, though their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The driver was headed north on San Pablo Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. when he hit the pedestrians, who were walking in the crosswalk at Castro Street.

Officer Chris Beck, of the , said the driver "wasn't really paying attention and didn't yield."

The police report is still being completed, he added, and cities of residence and ages for those involved in the accident were not available.

Lt. Jim Boito of the said the Berkeley Fire Department transported the victims, because Albany's ambulance was on another call. 

He said victims' injuries did not appear life-threatening, but that a doctor would have to make that determination.

Boito said the crosswalk is well-lit by two streetlights.
