Two adults and two children were taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon after their SUV overturned on Santa Fe Avenue and collided with a car.

A San Pablo family in an SUV had been traveling west on Marin Avenue just after noon when it turned right on Santa Fe, said officer Dave Lembi of the .

Lembi said, according to the initial investigation, it appeared the SUV driver tried to take the right turn at an unsafe speed, "which caused the vehicle to lose control and turn on its side."

As it was falling onto its left side, it sideswiped a Subaru heading south on Santa Fe.

"That stopped the Land Rover from heading into the front yard of a house," added Lembi.

The SUV driver, a 48-year-old man, and front passenger, a 29-year-old woman, along with two young children, were taken to the hospital.

A 30-year-old El Cerrito man driving the Subaru was alone in the vehicle and did not need to be taken to the hospital.

The family members appeared at the scene to have minor injuries, though firefighter Erik Ortenblad of the  cautioned that circumstances can change.

"But they're probably going to be able to walk away and be fine, and that's always a good thing," he said.
