[Editor's Note: The following notice went out by email to residents in University Village at 6:36 p.m. Monday. It appears below in full. As of 9 p.m., the flasher had not been detained, according to Village director Tavie Tipton.]
From the Village Office:
Dear Village Residents:
This afternoon someone claiming to be a Village maintenance man entered an apartment by telling the resident that he needed to "look at a plumbing leak."
He then exposed himself to the resident. She screamed and he ran out of the apartment.
The suspect is described as a white male. We are collecting better information right now, but in the meantime:
1. All maintenance staff wear clothing with their name visible on the shirt.
2. Ask to see their UCB id before allowing anyone into your apartment if you do not know them.
3. Call the Village office if this is during a weekday to verify the employee works for us. 526-8505 x 210
4. If you are unsure, do not allow them to enter your apartment.
This is the first instance of this happening that anyone here can remember. It is very disturbing to our families as well as our employees. Please warn your neighbors and your family members.
We will send out an update with more specifics as soon as possible.
Thank you, Tavie Tipton
