Berkeley police issued the alert shortly after 4 p.m. with a photo and description, saying he was last seen about 8 a.m. near the Claremont Hotel. Oakland police picked up the alert and sent it out on the nixle.com police alert system.
A subscriber to the Oakland police Nixle Alerts saw the alert, realized she had just seen the missing man and contacted Berkeley police, according to Oakland police.
An announcement from Oakland police said, "Shortly after sending the NIXLE Alert, a subscriber, who was enjoying an evening walk received the alert and realized the missing man had just walked past her. She immediately contacted the Berkeley Police Department and the at risk man is now safe."
Berkeley police officers went to the area where he was reported and found him near Broadway and Monroe in Oakland, said Berkeley Police Officer Jennifer Coats.
