Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder

The incident on Wednesday night involved two brothers inside an Albany residence.

Albany police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted homicide in connection with a gun incident on Wednesday night

According to an Albany Police Department press release, police received a report Thursday, Jan. 24, about 2 p.m. of an altercation between two adult brothers which occurred inside an Albany home the previous night.

During the dispute, one of the men reportedly held a loaded handgun to the head of the other and pulled the trigger while menacing the victim, police said.

After an investigation into the incident, Albany police arrested John Delaney, 48, during a vehicle stop on the 900 block of Jackson Street in Albany, shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday, police said.

The handgun involved was recovered and is in police evidence, according to the press release.

"Delaney was transferred to the custody of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department, where he is being held without bail on charges of attempted homicide," police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 28, according to the press release.
