Man Dead at Gun Range Owned by Albany Fire Chief Following Suspected Suicide

The Solano County sheriff's department spokesman said Thursday that authorities are not planning to release the victim's name because the death appears to have been a suicide.

A state worker was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in the Center Mass Shooting Range in Vacaville on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The shooting range is owned by Ed Tubbs, chief of the .

(Tubbs was not available Thursday for comment.)

The 43-year-old man is believed to be a Sacramento resident, Vacaville Police Sgt. Charlie Spruill said Wednesday.

The victim was found alone on the floor of the "B" area of the indoor shooting range by people who were shooting in the "C" area, Spruill said.

Police received a call about the shooting at 3:35 p.m. and the victim was pronounced dead at 3:42 p.m., Spruill said.

The shooting is being investigated as a suicide, Spruill said.

The victim's registration with the shooting range identified him as a state worker, he added.
