The driver struck the man, who was holding hands with one of the women. Both fell to the ground and received minor injuries.

The cause of the collision was a violation of Section 21651(a) of the state Vehicle Code, which states, "Whenever a highway has been divided into two or more roadways by means of intermittent barriers or by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width, either unpaved or delineated by curbs, double-parallel lines, or other markings on the roadway, it is unlawful to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across the dividing section."

Geissberger said there was an associated collision factor due to the failure of the pedestrians not to use a crosswalk or yield to the driver.

No one was cited following the accident, police said.

The pedestrians were treated at the scene for minor injuries and did not need to be taken to the hospital.
