Mountain Lion Reported in Montclair District

A caller reported seeing a mountain lion this morning in Oakland's Montclair District, according to police.

Oakland police have received an unconfirmed report of a mountain lion spotted about 11 a.m. today, Thursday, in or near the 5900 block of Merriewood Drive in Oakland's Montclair district, according to a community announcement from Oakland Police Department Lt. Christopher Bolton.

"The caller stated that the animal ran away shortly after being spotted," the announcement says.

"At this time, no threat to public safety is perceived."
