New Prelim Hearing Date for Albany Woman Accused of Murder

The preliminary hearing for Diane Sydenham of Albany, charged with fatally stabbing retired Kensington psychologist James Durkin with a knife to the heart, has been rescheduled for May 21.

Some readers have asked when the preliminary hearing will be held for Diane Sydenham of Albany, who has been charged with murdering a retired Kensington psychologist.

A spokeswoman for the Contra Costa County Superior Court said the hearing is now set for May 21 at 1:30 p.m. in the Richmond courthouse.

The hearing had been scheduled for April 4 but was delayed due to scheduling conflicts.

Sydenham, 57, has been charged with murdering James Durkin, 81, in his in-law unit in a home in the 600 block of Coventry Road in Kensington. His body was found with a steak knife stuck in his chest on Aug. 13, authorities said. She pleaded not guilty at a Sept. 20 hearing.
